LAWS OF THE GAME


Parents & Spectators

These are KIDS, this is a FUN game, the coaches are volunteers, the referees are human, this is not the World Cup. Cheer for EVERYONE and TOGETHER we can make GSA a FUN and SAFE place for our players to continue to develop and LOVE the Beautiful Game of SOCCER!


GSA U5 & U6

● Size 3 ball & Shin-guards required

● The match will consist of four (4) 8 minute quarters with a one minute water break between quarters and a 5-minute halftime.

● Assign a Timekeeper for each game to help the game stay on schedule.

● 3 v 3 (3 players on at a time) with NO Goalies.

● Away team wears BIBS

● Each player should play a minimum of 50% per game.

● Only Coaches with KIDSAFE Badges allowed with players for games and during practices.

“NEW BALL” for ALL restarts. (Coach throws in a new ball when the ball goes out of play). Keep restarts fair and roll NEW Ball to different players throughout the game.

● No throw ins, goal kicks, corners.

● No slide tackling (encourage players to stay on their feet).

● Kick offs (middle of field, center circle) only for the start of each quarter and when a goal is scored.

● Free flowing substitutions (do not need to stop game to sub)

● Good sportsmanship (no running up the score, parent tunnel at the end of the game, open communication with opposing coaches). Coaches work together to help manage the game, keep it fair and fun for all!

● Each Team will organize a Rotating SNACK Schedule for parents to volunteer to bring snacks after each game for their team.

● Due to Covid Safety, in lieu of the end of the game Parent Cheer Tunnel, we will instead have players jog towards the middle of the field and wave to their opponents “Good Game” while all parents cheer for all players at the same time.


GSA U7 & U8

Size 3 ball and Shin-guards required

● The match will consist of four (4) 12 minute quarters with a one minute water break between quarters and a 5-minute halftime.

● Assign a Timekeeper for each game to help the game stay on schedule.

● 5 v 5 (4 players + 1 GK)

● Away team wears BIBS 

● Only Coaches with KIDSAFE Badges allowed with players for games and during practices.

● Free flowing substitutions (on the fly)

● Goalies- Rotate goalies throughout the game (do not leave same goal keeper in longer than a quarter).

● Each player should play a minimum of 50% per game.

● Kick offs (middle of field, center circle) only for the start of each quarter and after a goal is scored.

● Restarts - Throw ins, Corner kicks and Goal kicks.

● Goal Kicks – all players of the opposing team have to retreat to their own half of the field before the kick is taken. 

● No slide tackling (encourage players to stay on their feet).

● Good sportsmanship (no running up the score, parent tunnel at the end of the game, open communication with other coaches). Coaches work together to help manage the game, keep it fair and fun for all!

GSA U9 & U10

● Size 4 ball and Shin-guards required

● The match will consist of two (2) halves, with a halftime.

● 7v7 (6 players + 1 GK)

● Home Colors are our Blue Jersey Kit.

● Away Colors are our Yellow Jersey Kit.

● Only Coaches with KIDSAFE Badges allowed on the field for games and practices. 

Coaches and players on one sideline, parents on the opposite sideline

● A U9/U10 team must have a minimum of 5 players to start and continue a game, and one of the players must be a goalkeeper.

● Each player should play a minimum of 50% per game.

● Kick offs (middle of field, center circle) only for the start of each half and after a goal is scored.

● Restarts - Throw ins, Corner kicks and Goal kicks.

● Headers are not allowed until U12

● Goal Kicks – Opponents remain beyond the build out line until the ball is in play. The ball is in play as soon as the first kick has been taken. The kicker does not play the ball again until it has touched another player. ○ If the kicker touches the ball a second time before it is out of the penalty area, or if an opponent does not cross the build out line prior to being put in play, the goal kick shall be retaken.

GSA U11 & U12

● Size 4 ball and Shin-guards required (Practice & Games)

● The match will consist of two (2) halves, with a halftime.

● U11 & U12 = 9v9 (8 players + 1 GK)

● Home Colors are our Blue Jersey Kit.

● Away Colors are our Yellow Jersey Kit.

● Only KIDSAFE Coaches allowed on the fields for practices and games.

● Coaches and players on one sideline, parents on the opposite sideline

● Each player should play a minimum of 50% per game.

● Kick offs (middle of field, center circle) only for the start of each half and after a goal is scored.

● The match will consist of two (2) halves, with a halftime. 

● U13 and older = 11 v 11 (10 players + GK)

● Home Colors are our Blue Jersey Kit.

● Away Colors are our Yellow Jersey Kit.

● Only KIDSAFE Coaches allowed on the fields for practices and games.

● Coaches and players on one sideline, parents on the opposite sideline

● Each player should play a minimum of 50% per game.
