GSA Academy Program

Georgetown Soccer Association is proud to announce our new Academy Program*, a training program run by Steve McBride, Georgetown High School Varsity Girls Soccer Coach. Don't miss this opportunity to take your player's skills and knowledge to the next level!

  • WHO: All Age-Pure U9 and U10 registered GSA players (birthdates between 8/01/98 through 7/31/00)
  • WHEN: Every Monday from 6:00-7:30pm, throughout the Fall Recreational season (August 25th through November 3rd)
  • WHERE: GSA Ray Thomas Field #3
  • COST: $50 for U9 Players/$75 for U10 Players. Prices include Academy t-shirt 

* Note: These are additional training-only sessions: games will be played with participating player's recreational team.

GSA Academy Program Training Goals

  • Learn From Professionals: Instruction by nationally licensed coaches with assistance from current collegiate players at a fraction of the cost typical for this level of training.
  • Enhance Your Tool Kit: Develop the tools necessary to achieve success in all four playing pillars:
    • Technical (individual-based skills)
    • Tactical (strategy, decision-making and problem solving)
    • Physiological (optimum fitness)
    • Psychological (mental toughness/competitive attitude)
  • Participate in Specialized Training: Receive specialized training via small group and individual settings, geared for age- and skill- specific levels, including:
    • Learn the key attacking and key defending strategies; learn offsides and how it influences the format of the game
    • Take ball-handling skills to the next level; learn both technical and tactical skills
  • Have Fun While Being Challenged: Increase enjoyment of the game, regardless of player's current ability, through personalized, professional training
  • Assist Team Coaches: Learn new ways to run more effective practices/training

GSA Academy Curriculum

  • Dribbling to maintain possession
  • Dribbling to beat an opponent
  • Passing/Receiving ground balls
  • Passing/Receiving balls in the air
  • Heading: Attacking and Defending
  • Finishing
  • Principles of Defense: pressure, cover and balance
  • Principles of Attack: 1st attacker, 2nd attacker and 3rd attacker
  • Positional Play: functional training
  • Proprioception Training: joint stability training to improve balance and coordination training for more explosive movements
